South Burnett Mountain Bike Club members are still celebrating after hosting a massive weekend of racing recently at their Gordonbrook Dam tracks.

The 2024 AusCycling Queensland cross-country short track (XCC) and cross-country Olympic (XCO) State Championships attracted 108 riders on October 5 and 140 on October 6.

This is the first major event the club has hosted since the courses were opened in May.

There were competitors of all ages, ranging from tiny riders in the Under 8s through to veterans in their 50s, tackling different length courses.

Volunteers were kept busy serving up hot food and cold drinks, as well as dealing with registrations, results and even a snake …

The dam’s recreation area was jam-packed with campers for the event and was buzzing, literally, with riders warming up on stationary bikes and a drone overhead.
