Kai Moran leads Jai Bainbridge in Heat 9 of the Solos on Saturday afternoon after the rain stopped

October 4, 2024

Rain has not been the friend of the Kingaroy Junior Motorcycle Speedway Club this year …

In August, bad weather forced the club to cancel its planned Queensland championships meeting, and for a few hours on Saturday, the U16s 125cc Australian Championships looked like it could meet the same fate.

Riders hit the Kingaroy Showgrounds track on Saturday morning for warm-up laps, but then the (unexpected) rain came down, drenching the surface.

But after a nervous wait of several hours – and some clever tractor work to remove the soft top surface – the Solos heats went ahead, albeit slightly delayed.

Riders had come from New Zealand, NSW and North Queensland to take part in the event.

There were a few thrills and spills, and all the riders would have gone home muddy, but there was a successful day of racing.

The pee wee riders who took to the track between the Solos heats also seemed to be enjoying the damp conditions.

Fortunately, bright blue skies greeted the competitors for the Best Pairs races on Sunday morning.
