More than 100 mountain bike riders will be in action at the two-day AusCycling Queensland Cross Country Mountain Bike Championships at Gordonbrook Dam this weekend.

South Burnett Mountain Bike Club secretary Jason Wyeth said 108 riders had registered for Saturday’s events, where riders will be tackling a 1.2km course.

On Sunday, there will be 139 riders in action on the gruelling 6.2km course.

A series of mountain bike tracks have been developed beside Gordonbrook Dam by the South Burnett Mountain Bike Club.

This weekend’s races will be the first major event to be hosted by the club at their new area.

The courses were only officially opened in May this year after five years of planning and hard work.

Riders, aged from 4 to 55, will compete in different categories and different age groups.

Racing on Day 1 will start at 1:00pm, while Day 2 will get under way about 8:00am.

Jason said spectators were more than welcome to come along and watch the action.

There will be hot food and cold drinks available to buy both days.

To get to the Gordonbrook Dam Recreation Area, turn off the Bunya Highway into Recreation Drive, just north of Memerambi, and follow the signs to Gordonbrook Dam.
