The South Burnett Eagles Under 16s have just missed out on glory in the Bundaberg Junior Rugby League grand final, played on Saturday.

The Eagles, who took the toughest finals pathway into the big game, faced Minor Premiers Across The Waves at Salter Oval in Bundaberg.

It was always going to be a tough ask but the Eagles knew the hometown favourites could be beaten.

Waves were defeated only once during the regular season, by the Eagles in Cherbourg on July 6.

On Saturday, Waves led 6-4 at half-time and were ahead 24-20 at the full-time siren despite two late tries by the Eagles during the last 10 minutes.

South Burnett try scorers were James Searle (2), Lawson Braithwaite and Damon Cooper. Zac Harris kicked one conversion plus a penalty goal.

Waves tries were scored by Taj Plath, Nicholas de Lacy, Noah McGuire and Tahj Coates.  Coates kicked four conversions.
