FLASHBACK: Best Play Award at the 2023 Heritage NananGO PLAYfest was presented by the Nanango Theatre Company’s Louise and David Kenny, centre, to writers / directors Clara Aleckson and Opal Francis, from the Blackout Collective

August 28, 2024

The third annual NananGO PLAYfest is on this weekend featuring 20 one-act plays put on by theatre groups from across south-east Queensland.

The entertainment gets under way on Friday night at the Nanango Cultural Centre and will culminate in prize presentations on Sunday afternoon.

There are five sessions, each featuring four short plays.

The plays cover a spectrum of genres, from comedy to drama, with a strong emphasis this year on youth performances.

Tickets for each session are $10 or a season pass for all three days is $40, and they can be booked online or purchased at the door.

Nanango Theatre Company’s own players are putting on five works: “How Many Noughts”, written by local playwright Annette McKeith; “Albert”, “Poof” and “Letters From The Heart”.

The NTC’s junior theatre group will be putting on “Who’s A Good Boy?” on Friday evening.

And last year’s Best Play winners – Blackout Collective – have returned with two works: “Love Me Anyway” and “Shoot Your Shot”.

The theatre groups are competing for cash prizes, sponsored by Heritage Bank Nanango, with independent adjudicators judging each performance.

The results, plus feedback from the judges, will be announced early on Sunday afternoon after Session 5 finishes.
