A 25-year-old Cherbourg man faces nine charges after being arrested following a dramatic chase by a police dog through a forestry area on Thursday.
The man has been charged with:
- Two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle
- Entering a dwelling with intent to commit an indictable offence
- Armed robbery with actual violence
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
- Disqualified driving
- Possessing a dangerous drug
- Possessing a knife in public place, and
- Obstructing police.
He was one of four people charged with property and unlawful use of motor vehicle offences after Polair tracked an allegedly stolen vehicle between North Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast on Thursday.
Police will allege the four people were involved in the theft of a Jeep Cherokee from an address in Everton Park about 8:00am earlier in the day.
Just before 2:00pm, police located the vehicle on Corrie Street in Chermside where three people – a 19-year-old man, 18-year-old woman and 17-year-old male – were taken into custody.
However, the fourth person – the 25-year-old Cherbourg man – allegedly broke into a nearby address, assaulted a man and stole a blue Holden Commodore.
The victim, in his 40s, received non-life threatening injuries during the incident and was taken to hospital for treatment.
The Commodore was tracked by Polair and was allegedly seen driving dangerously between Chermside and the Sunshine Coast, before it eventually stopped on the Bruce Highway southbound at Beerburrum about 5:30pm.
The driver left the scene on foot.
Police dog Stryker tracked the man through a forestry area and he was arrested a short distance away.
A 19-year-old Acacia Ridge man has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, serious assault of a police officer, enter dwelling and commit, receiving tainted property and stealing.
An 18-year-old Cherbourg woman has been charged with enter dwelling and commit, receiving tainted property, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and stealing.
A 17-year-old Acacia Ridge male has been charged with enter dwelling and commit, receiving tainted property, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and stealing.
All four were due to face court in Brisbane on Thursday.
A police spokesperson said investigations were continuing and detectives expected further charges could be laid.
The Police Service should increase their number of ‘four-legged’ officers. Nothing would terrify me more than being chased by a Police Dog! And they can sure run faster than me!
