Two men have been sentenced to lengthy jail sentences after pleading guilty to charges linked to a cocaine drug raid at Durong in 2022.

Fabio Fernandez Pulgarin and Alexander Villegas Jaramillo were sentenced in the Brisbane District Court on Monday.

They each pleaded guilty to manufacturing a commercial quantity of controlled drugs.

It was alleged Pulgarin was a “drug chemist” who came to Australia to teach syndicate members how to produce cocaine.

The dual Spanish-Colombian national was arrested at Durong in July 2022 alongside Colombian-born Sydney resident Jaramillo.

At the time police alleged a purpose-built cocaine extraction shed had been built on the property under the direction of a Colombian organised crime syndicate.

Justice Catherine Muir sentenced both men to 13 years’ jail with a non-parole period of 6½ years.

They have been in custody since their arrest.
