Wildlife lovers have a treat in store next month at the Blackbutt Memorial Hall.

From noon to 4:30pm on Saturday, September 7, Friends of the Forest Inc will be hosting a free event to mark Threatened Species Day.

There will be an opportunity to get up close to native wildlife with a live animal display by Martin Fingland, from Geckoes Wildlife.

The High Country Koala Action Group will be providing information about koalas and bat carer / rescuer Kerry Turner will have a presentation about flying foxes.

Max Fulham will provide information about the Greater Glider population which has been spotted in Deongwar State Forest, east of Crows Nest.

There will also be live music, face painting for children, lucky door prizes and nature displays by school students.

Nest boxes and native plants will be on sale.

The free event has been funded by an Australia Post community grant.
