A proposed 200MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Lower Wonga has secured approval from Powerlink to be linked to the electricity grid.
The $450 million Equis Australia project will be connected via a transmission line to the Woolooga substation, about 800 metres away on Gympie-Woolooga Road.
Equis says the BESS will have a discharge capacity up to 800MWh, which is enough power to supply electricity for up to 380,000 homes for four hours.
Construction is expected to start this year with operations to begin in 2026.
Equis says the project will create about 115 full-time jobs during construction.
