Lachlan Ralston scores the first of his two tries for the South Burnett Eagles Under 16s on Saturday

Rugby League was played in cold and damp conditions at Cherbourg’s Jack O’Chin Oval last Saturday.

Unfortunately two of the originally scheduled events had to be cancelled.

In Under 15s, Easts Magpies forfeited to the South Burnett Eagles, while the Under 17s women’s game between Cherbourg and Bundaberg was also called off.

  • In Under 16s, South Burnett Eagles defeated Across The Waves Tigers 40-10 after leading 24-10 at half-time.

South Burnett tries were scored by Lachlan Ralston (2), Will Webber (2), Ethan Saal, Montrehl Tewes-Smallwood, Lewis Hopkins and Lawson Braithwaite.

Lawson Braithwaite kicked four conversions in blustery conditions.

  • In A Grade, Murgon held on to score a narrow 38-36 win over the Kingaroy Red Ants, with both sides notching up seven tries.

At half-time, the Mustangs led 30-10 but had to hold off a resurgent Kingaroy in the second half.

Murgon try scorers included Josiah Alberts, Lehman Brunjes, Stafford Sandow, Trequaan Stanley, Buddy Stanley and Lennox Bligh. Chris Bond kicked five conversions.

Kingaroy tries were scored by Blake Augustine (2), Semesa Madigicala (2), Lachlan Price, Alex Pomfret and Casey-Jones Dalton. Harry Sterling kicked four conversions,

  • In the second A Grade game, Cherbourg defeated Nanango 28-22 after leading 18-12 at half-time.

Cherbourg try scorers were Arthur Saltner (2), Jonathan Walsh, Vincent Law and Keith Gadd Jnr. Daron Saltner-Bligh kicked four goals.

Nanango tries were scored by Nikolao Petueli (2) and Dillon Sullivan (2). Jayden Tewes-Smallwood kicked three goals.

This Weekend’s Games

While all the senior interest will be on the 47th Battalion carnival in Kingaroy (see separate report), there are some other games happening.

Blackbutt Timbertowners will be hosting Under 6s through to Under 12s at Bunny Pearce Oval in Blackbutt, with the first games getting under way at 8:00am.

South Burnett Eagles Under 17s will be taking on Dalby in Toowoomba on Saturday.

Eagles U15s and U16s have a bye.
