Detectives have seized an estimated $42 million worth of cannabis and arrested six people after raids in Coominya and Inala on Monday.

Operation Whiskey Alon was led by detectives from the Drug and Serious Crime Group State Drug Squad.

A police spokesperson said officers executed a search warrant at a rural property in Coominya where they allegedly uncovered a large-scale cannabis production facility, resulting in the seizure of:

  • 8253 cannabis plants (worth about $41.2 million); and
  • 27kg of dried cannabis (worth about $208,000).

The spokesperson said police also seized commercial-level drug manufacturing equipment and dismantled 24 grow houses.

Five Coominya residents – including one unlawful non-citizen – allegedly attempted to leave the scene on foot before being arrested by police.

Three women (aged 55, 51 and 32)  and two men (aged 50 and 31) face a range of charges including producing and possessing drugs.

Another search warrant was executed on Monday at a property in Inala where detectives allegedly located more than 67kg of cannabis.

A 50-year-old Inala woman was arrested and charged with producing and possessing drugs.

The six people have been remanded in custody and were due to appear in Richlands Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
