There was no joy again for Wondai last Saturday on their special Ladies Day at home, with Cherbourg racking up 10 tries against the Wolves.

Cherbourg were ahead 52-24 when the full-time siren sounded, after leading 28-12 at half-time.

Cherbourg tries were scored by Fred Cobbo (4), Jonathan Walsh (3), George Fisher (2) and Vincent Law. Daron Saltner-Bligh kicked six conversions.

Wondai try scorers were Alex Georgetown, Harry Perrett, Sonny Weazel and Cory Ward. Torren Anderton (3) and Alex Georgetown were the goal kickers.

This was Wondai’s last home game of the year, but the club still has two big events coming up.

On July 20, Wondai will be hosting their annual Mini Mods carnival which has 94 teams signed up.

And on August 24, it will be hosting the A Grade and Under 14s Grand Finals.

NB. There are no junior or senior competition games scheduled for this weekend.

Rep League

There may have been no junior rugby league locally, but some keen young players have been representing the South Burnett this week at St George in the Zone 5 U10/U35kg carnival.

Nineteen players have been competing against teams which have come from as far away as Cunnamulla.

Three junior referees also travelled from the South Burnett to take part.

At the end of the week, three South Burnett players – Trayden C., Caiden B. and Austin M. – were selected to play for Easts in the traditional Easts v Wests game.

This week the focus will switch to Murgon, when the South Burnett Rugby League will host the Zone 5 U43kg carnival.

The action will get under way at Murgon Sportsground on Sunday afternoon with the traditional Athletics Carnival.

Footy games will then start on Monday, with spectators invited to drop in at any time to watch the young players in action.

There are eight teams competing: South Burnett Eagles, Balonne Barwon Bandits, Cunnamulla, Central Downs, Wynnum-Manly Seagulls, Macintyre, Western Downs Wild Dogs, and the Warwick & Southern Downs Colts.
