Joshua Scott puts the first points on the board for the Wondai Wolves

June 21, 2024

Wondai Wolves supporters would be licking their wounds after last weekend’s rugby league games.

The Women’s Open team was defeated by Fraser Coast in their Grand Final clash at Maryborough.

And the Wolves U14s and A Grade sides were both downed, despite enjoying a home ground advantage at Wondai Sportsground.

Wondai were ahead 24-6 at half-time in their A Grade game against Nanango, but the Stags kept the Wolves scoreless in the second half.

The final score was Nanango 30, Wondai 24.

Nanango tries were scored by Jayden Tewes-Smallwood (2), Dan English, Jack Sullivan and Kaia Williams. Tewes-Smallwood kicked five conversions.

Wondai try scorers were Jermaine Harrison (2), Joshua Scott and Sonny Weazel. Torren Anderton kicked four conversions.

The second A Grade, played under lights, was the local derby tussle between Murgon and Cherbourg, which ended in a 36-all draw.

Cherbourg notched up seven tries to six, but would have rued the penalty kick given away to Murgon right on half-time.

Mustangs’ Lloyd Langton slotted this home, which proved crucial at full-time.

Cherbourg try scorers were Elwyn Fewquandie, Jonathan Walsh, Fred Cobbo, Rahcine Doyle, Jonathan Walsh, Ryan Jacobs and Daron Saltner-Bligh. Saltner-Bligh kicked four conversions.

Murgon try scorers included Lloyd Langton, Lennox Bligh and Josiah Alberts.  Lloyd Langton kicked five conversions and a penalty goal.

The action will be back at Wondai Sportsground again this weekend for the Wolves annual Ladies Day on Saturday.

A “Great Gatsby”-themed event for women will be held in the Tom Kemp Clubhouse from noon-3:00pm. Tickets can be booked online
