A woman aged in her 20s was airlifted to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane with critical injuries after a collision at Durong on Monday morning.

The collision occurred at the crossroads of Mundubbera-Durong, Shellytop and Woolletts roads, with both vehicles ending up in a ditch on the side of the road.

Emergency services were called just after 9:00am.

The Toowoomba-based LifeFlight SGAS helicopter was despatched about 9:30am and was able to land on the roadway near the incident.

The injured woman had to be cut free from her vehicle by fire crews.

She was then treated by Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics on scene and stretchered to the waiting helicopter.

A QAS spokesperson said she suffered life-threatening injuries.
