Wondai RSL Sub-Branch has received a $9000 grant from the Foundation for Rural Regional Renewal (FRRR).

The grant has come from the “Small & Vital” stream of FRRR’s latest round of its Strengthening Rural Communities grant program.

An FRRR spokesperson said the philanthropic organisation received a record 450 applications for this round of funding, requesting more than $4.5 million in grants for projects valued at more than $19 million.

Nearly $1.4 million was distributed to successful applicants.

The Wondai RSL Sub-Branch will use its grant to buy a ride-on mower to enable its older volunteers to maintain parkland handed over to the group to manage.

The Sub-Branch approached the South Burnett Regional Council in September last year to take on a trustee lease of a strip of land between the Wondai Diggers Club and the Wondai Swimming Pool to develop a community memorial park.
