A 21-year-old Nanango man who died from a gunshot wound after an alleged incident at Booie on March 21 was facing 18 charges – including house breaking – at the time.

Eighteen counts against Blayde Ethan Barber were listed on the callover list for Kingaroy Magistrates Court on Friday morning.

Police Prosecutor Sgt Barry Stevens told the court no evidence would be offered.

“Mr Barber was the victim of the incident a couple of weeks ago,” Sgt Stevens said.

Magistrate Andrew Sinclair said Mr Barber had been on a curfew at the time “because he had been charged with 18 offences, including various live offences, breaking into houses and what not.”

“The charges are dismissed and the defendant is discharged.”

Kingaroy businessman Gavin Pates, 38, has been charged with manslaughter over the gunshot death and has been remanded on bail to appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on June 28.

UPDATE June 28: The charges against Pates were mentioned in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on June 28 and adjourned until September 6, 2024.

UPDATE December 3: The charges were mentioned again in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on November 29 and adjourned to January 21, 2025.

Pates remains on bail.
