The South Burnett Eagles girls starred at last weekend’s Walker Challenge U13 carnival hosted by Toowoomba Valleys Junior Rugby League Club
The girls flew through the two-day carnival undefeated, taking home the Walker Women’s Cup on Sunday.
Along the way they defeated Souths /Newtown (16-0), Highfields (12-4), Valleys (16-4), Brothers (12-0) and Dalby (16-4).
They then enjoyed a 24-4 semi-final victory over Souths/Newton before downing Highfields 4-0 in the Grand Final.
South Burnett’s Gertrude West-Sandow was named Best Forward of the Carnival.
Gertrude and teammate Amarlee Wortley were selected in the Female Team of the Carnival.
The South Burnett Eagles boys had a tougher time, scoring two wins and three losses and just missing out on a semi-final berth.
South Burnett Player of the Day honours, awarded by Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs Academy Coach Blake Mara, went to Gertrude West-Sandow and Joseph Cole.
At the end of the weekend, Brisbane Broncos representatives named a best player from each team in action.
For the South Burnett, it was Georgia Forest for the girls and Richie Cunningham for the boys.
The fifth Walker Challenge, held at the John McDonald Sports Complex, featured Toowoomba junior rugby league clubs taking on teams from the South Burnett, Roma, Laidley, Warwick and Jimboomba.

South Burnett Eagles teams were also in action in Kingaroy on Saturday in pre-season trial games against Across The Waves.
Hitting T.J. O’Neill Oval for the first time for 2024 were the South Burnett Eagles U14s, U15s, U16s, U18s and A Grade Merit sides.
The Kingaroy Red Ants also took on an Across The Waves team to top off a big day of rugby league.
