The South Burnett Sub-Chamber, responsible for overseeing agricultural shows in the region, is facing a crisis following its AGM in Kingaroy on Wednesday night.
Public relations officer Jasmine Thornes said the problem – the lack of a secretary – could threaten the existence of the committee.
A new committee was elected at the AGM, chaired at Kingaroy Showgrounds by QCAS general manager Trevor Beckingham OAM:
- President – Leonie Nichols
- Vice-President – Amanda Palmer, and
- Treasurer Daniel Trace
However the key position of secretary was not filled.
“Unless a suitable individual steps forward to fill this volunteer position by March 6, the sub-chamber will be forced to dissolve,” Jasmine said.
She said the secretary played a pivotal role in co-ordinating and managing the administrative responsibilities crucial to the success of the sub-chamber.
“This includes liaising with show societies, maintaining records and ensuring the smooth functioning of the organisation,” Jasmine said.
“The sub-chamber is urgently seeking a committed and capable individual willing to dedicate their time and skill to preserving the rich agricultural heritage of the South Burnett region.
“The secretary’s position is open to anyone with the willingness and ability to contribute to the community.
“The selected individual will receive guidance and support from the new committee as well as the delegates of the show societies within the South Burnett region.”
The sub-chamber has scheduled a special meeting at Kingaroy Showgrounds from 7:00pm on March 6.
Nominations for the secretary’s position will be accepted during the meeting.
The sub-chamber is also looking for people to fill the roles of Delegate and Next Gen delegate.
UPDATE March 7: Alexandra Chintock has been announced as the new sub-chamber secretary.
