Do you know someone who you think is great and deserves an award? Then perhaps you should nominate them for a Queensland Greats Award …

Two former South Burnett residents were named in last year’s awards: the late Dr Honor Dell Cleary OAM who grew up in Cherbourg, and rugby league’s “The Pearl”, ie. Steve “Bucko” Renouf, who came from Murgon.

Queensland Greats are the people – and institutions – which have helped to make Queensland what it is today.

The awards recognise people who have had a significant impact on Queensland and local communities.

Other previous winners include child safety champions Bruce Morcombe OAM and Denise Morcombe OAM, the late Steve Irwin, singer Kev Carmody, journalist Kay McGrath and the late Eddie Koiki Mabo.

Institutions have also been recognised, including Surf Life Saving Queensland, Endeavour Foundation and Queensland’s Rural Fire Service.

Since its inception in 2001, the Queensland Greats Awards have recognised 120 individuals, 19 institutions, and 10 posthumous recipients across the fields of science, health, education, community, business, Indigenous affairs, sports, arts and philanthropy.

Recipients are honoured with a bronze plaque installed at the Roma Street Parkland in Brisbane.

  • Nominations can be made online before 5:00pm on February 16, 2024.
