Brisbane Heat may have lost the recent WBBL Final against the Adelaide Strikers, but it’s sure to be a season that Murgon bowler Courtney Sippel will remember for a long time.
Not only did she help the Heat earn a berth in the final, but along the way she set some career milestones.
In the “Eliminator” final against the Sydney Thunder – which earned the Heat a spot in the preliminary final, “The Challenger” – Sippel took a career best 3/9 off four overs, including a sharp caught and bowled.
Then in the “Challenger”, Sippel repeated her performance, taking 4/27 off four overs – including the top four batters in the Perth Scorchers’ lineup.
This victory launched the Heat into the grand final showdown with the Adelaide Strikers.
“The Scoop” podcast about women’s cricket, hosted by Laura Jolly and Emily Collin, named Sippel as one of the best WBBL players never to be picked for Australia.
The pair described Sippel as “one of the most exciting pace bowlers in the game”.
“After being named the Betty Wilson Young Cricketer of the Year at this year’s Australian Cricket Awards, the 22-year-old has been a consistent bowling option for Heat captain Jess Jonassen,” the pair said.
