Santa Claus drops into the Freeman family’s Christmas display every Friday and Saturday night
It’s hard to photograph the Freemans’ Christmas tree as it’s simply so big

Feeling in need of some Christmas spirit? Then can we suggest you pop the kids in the car and take a look at the Christmas displays erected by the Freeman family in Kingaroy!

This is the third year Tamara and Peter Freeman have turned their front yard at 107 Moore Street into a Christmas wonderland for children and adults alike.

The front hedge is flashing “Enter”, and when you do, you’ll walk into a glittering world of Christmas lights and inflatables.

But this year there is an even bigger surprise … a massive seven metre tall Christmas tree (plus star) flashing away merrily in one corner of the yard.

Peter had to hire a scissorlift to bring the Christmas tree to life, and the design is his own invention.

Tamara said it had taken the family about six weeks to put the whole garden display together; Peter actually took holidays from work to concentrate on getting everything just right.

The couple’s effort is carrying on a family tradition.

Tamara’s uncle, Geoff Hartwig, used to put on a big display at his home in Ivy Street – and, in fact, won the 2018 South Burnett Christmas Lights competition (the last of the major competitions sponsored by Gina Rinehart’s Hancock Prospecting).

Geoff’s last year of decorating was 2019 just before the pandemic struck …

Tamara and Peter took over in 2021. They inherited some of Geoff’s display pieces – although that hasn’t stopped them from buying more items to add every every year.

A lot of thought goes into what goes where around the yard.

“We started planning this display at the end of last year,” Tamara said.

Visitors are invited to wander through the display every night from 7:00pm to 9:00pm until Christmas Eve (so long as there’s no storm).

However, on Friday and Saturday nights there is a special treat! Santa Claus drops in about 7:30pm to hand out candy canes to children.
