Both the SBRC and Member For Nanango Deb Frecklington have agitated for sealing the last gravel sections of the Maidenwell-Bunya Mountains Road to improve access for residents and tourists

Work to seal the last remaining gravel stretch of the Maidenwell-Bunya Mountains Road will begin in 2024.

Infrastructure general manager Aaron Meehan told Wednesday’s South Burnett Regional Council Infrastructure Standing Committee meeting that engineering plans for the project had been completed.

He said Council had been contracted by Transport and Main Roads to complete the work.

While there were still some final approvals outstanding, Mr Meehan said he expected the work should be completed within the next calendar year.

Sealing the gravel sections of the only eastern access road to the popular Bunya Mountains National Park has been sought by local residents for decades.

It has also been promised by both sides of politics during various State election campaigns.

The push to improve the important tourist route dates back to Nanango Shire Council, prior to Council amalgamation in 2008.
