Queensland Fire and Emergency Services have extended the local fire ban for residents in the South and North Burnett, Cherbourg and Gympie council areas.

The ban, which also covers Fraser Coast and Bundaberg council areas, has been in place from 12:01am on Wednesday (October 25)  and will continue now until at least 11:59pm on Monday, November 6.

Fire bans in the Toowoomba, Western Downs, Southern Downs, Goondiwindi, Maranoa and Balonne council areas have also been extended to 11:59pm on Friday, November 10.

A QFES spokesperson said the extensions were due to heightened fire conditions.

Under a local fire ban all open fires are prohibited and all Permits to Light Fire which have been issued in the designated areas have been suspended for the duration of the ban.

Power tools may be used during a local fire ban however QFES has encouraged people to use these with extreme care and ensure adequate equipment was available to extinguish any fire which may start.

This includes having a person available to watch out for any ignitions that occur.

Information on fire bans and the exemptions that can apply can be found on the QFES website
