Local tourism organisation Visit South Burnett (VSB) has urged local groups, organisations and businesses to write letters of support in favour of the introduction of public transport in the region.
Tourism officer Melanie Eastaugh said the letters should explain how the organisation would use public transport if it was available, and what its introduction could mean for the region.
VSB recently conducted an online survey about public transport which attracted more than 400 responses.
The results indicated strong support for:
- Public transport (an overwhelming majority said they would use it)
- A bus service from the South Burnett to Toowoomba
- A bus service from the South Burnett to Gympie
- A regular bus around the South Burnett traveling from town to town
Comments included:
Council needs to step up and run a local bus service so people living in outlying areas, Proston, Hivesville, Moffatdale, Wattle Camp, Wooroolin etc have a reliable public transport system that can take them into Murgon, Wondai, Kingaroy, Nanango.
We need a reliable cost effective public transport system that will enable people to travel to major centres for medical and personal reasons.
Pensioner friendly affordable small buses travelling Blackbutt to Murgon through Yarraman and Nanango so people can go to GP appointments and visit hospital etc, not to mention shopping and community events
Melanie said letters of support should be sent to admin@visitsouthburnett.au
