The South Burnett Regional Youth Council hosted this month’s Kingaroy Chamber of Commerce meet’n’greet.
The get-together for local businesspeople was held at the Kingaroy Town Hall reception room on September 12.
The 2023 Youth Council is made up of 13 young people from across the region who have been gaining experience and training in leadership.
The program was extablished in 2022 to provide an opportunity for young people to advocate for their peers who live, work and study in the South Burnett.
Members of the Youth Council spoke about their recent activities, which included organising the PigJam music and Pigs Can Fly art competitions which were run in conjunction with Kingaroy BaconFest.

Stanwell General Manager (Southern Generation) Michael Joy provided an update about current activities and projects at the Tarong Power stations.
Mr Joy congratulated the significant number of South Burnett young people who received acknowledgement and awards at the recent Darling Downs and South West Region Queensland Training Awards.
Stanwell’s Chloe Chudleigh won the regional Bob Marshman Trainee of the Year award after completing a Certificate IV in Business.
Mr Joy said the Tarong Power station would be celebrating its 40th borthday on May 4, 2024.
He said it had been a very busy year for generation at Tarong with the team focussed on ensuring Stanwell’s portfolio of generation assets were maintained and operating reliably.
Tarong’s current generation levels are similar to those in 2004.
Unit 4 is currently out of service for a routine overhaul with the required workforce already staying in the area and supporting local businesses.
Mr Joy also provided an update on the construction progress of the Battery Storage Project at Tarong, with a number of local suppliers providing services to its various stages.

KCCI president Damien Martoo announced an upcoming event, “South Burnett’s Path To Prosperity”, which the KCCI will be hosting on October 24.
Topics to be covered include “Why Invest in the South Burnett?” by hotspotting.com.au and “Regional Economic Opportunities” by business strategist Neil Glentworth.
