South Burnett Chorale members have been practising hard on Tuesday evenings in Kingaroy

August 17, 2023

The enthusiastic members of the South Burnett Chorale have been rehearsing hard – and brushing up on their Latin – for their upcoming concerts.

The 25 or so singers have been practising their concert pieces since the start of the year, except for brief pauses for the Kingaroy Eisteddfod (they won their category!) and for SingFest (the regional choral roadshow which they hosted at Kingaroy Town Hall in July).

When southburnett.com.au dropped in to their regular Tuesday evening practice night recently, the choir was lifting the roof in spectacular harmony under the careful direction of conductor Julee-anne Bell

Their new show, “Love, Light and Latin”, will have just two performances: at 3:00pm on Saturday, August 26, at the Wondai Diggers Club; and at 2:00pm on Sunday, August 27, at Taabinga Homestead.

Julee-anne said there would be 11 songs presented, plus a small duet.

She urged people to come along, and said they shouldn’t be scared by the word “Latin” in the title.

Although some of the songs do include a few words of Latin, the concert was made up of mostly contemporary pieces by the likes of Bob Dylan and Ralph McTell.

Tickets cost $15 (under 15s are free).

[UPDATED with correction. A free afternoon tea is available at the Taabinga Homestead concert only]
