Motorists should watch out for “Detour” signs on Knight Street and Walter Road in Kingaroy as work starts on the construction of a roundabout at Kingaroy’s most confusing intersection.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads has been upgrading intersections on Walter Road since March, but the main job of creating the new roundabout at the Somerset / Knight St junction is about to start.
The new roundabout will cater for heavy vehicles and aims to reduce the number of trucks currently travelling through residential areas on Kingaroy Street.
A TMR spokesperson said works would begin in late July and continue until late in the year.
“Works will generally be undertaken Monday to Friday from 6:00am to 6:00pm. Some periodic work outside of these hours may be required,” the spokesperson said.
“Temporary detours will be in place during the works.
“Local residents and emergency services will still be able to access properties in Knight Street, via the detour along Duke Street and Hodge Street.
“Additionally, a two-week closure of Duke Street will be required. TMR contractors will advise residents of the closure prior to it happening.
“At that time, motorists will be required to detour via Hodge Street and Earl Street.”
TMR warned that vehicle access to private properties may be temporarily restricted within active sites for short periods.
“The team will endeavour to minimise any access restrictions and will advise any affected property owners of imminent access disruptions where possible,” the spokesperson said.
