Fire crews take stock of the situation on Booie-Crawford Road on Saturday evening

Fire crews worked to protect homes when a large grass fire spread rapidly across paddocks and scrub north of Kingaroy on Saturday afternoon.

The alert went out about 1:30pm.

The blaze began in the vicinity of Mount Hope Road and Kingaroy-Barkers Creek at Booie.

The flames then spread quickly to the north-east, at one point crossing Booie-Crawford Road to the north and Mount Hope Road to the east.

At the height of the incident, eight urban, 10 rural and three water trucks were working across the fireground, which was estimated to be 80-100ha in size.

Ambulance paramedics were also in attendance, but fortunately were not needed.

By 5:00pm, 11 fire units were still at the scene although the fire had been contained.

Firefighters were mopping up and putting out spot fires in the Booie-Crawford Road area.

By 6:00pm, the number of fire crews had been reduced to just two units.

Firefighters were expected to monitor the area overnight.

The cause of the blaze is yet to be determined.
