Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington says the safety of South Burnett seniors has been overlooked in the State Budget.

The South Burnett had missed out on being included in the State Government’s new “Helping Seniors Secure their Homes” program.

The program had previously been announced as a trial in Townsville, Mt Isa and Cairns and was extended in the State Budget to Toowoomba.

“We all know there is a youth crime crisis happening right across our State, and the South Burnett is not immune,” Mrs Frecklington said.

“I have received many complaints from local seniors who cannot understand why they are not included in this program.

“We have older people who have been attacked in their homes. We have older people who live in constant fear of intruders.

“It seems unreasonable that in a region like ours, with a high percentage of people over the age of 65 who face the daily threats of an ongoing youth crime problem, that this program is not available to them.

“It is another example of our region being overlooked.”
