South Burnett students and businesses enjoyed glimpses of the future when the Digitrek Regional Roadshow rolled into Kingaroy on Thursday.

The roadshow, sponsored by the State Government, was hosted at TAFE Queensland’s Kingaroy campus.

Senior students from Saint Mary’s Catholic College, St John’s Lutheran School, Nanango and Kingaroy State High schools, Proston P-10 and Faith Christian School worked their way through three workshops highlighting different emerging technologies.

There were opportunities to get hands-on with online tools using technologies such as AI and 3D design.

There were also “design spaces” to explore as well as the future of food.

Fraser Border, from integratedSTEM, was running one of the learning areas.

He said the students had been given the opportunity to develop their own algorithm to make use of “machine vision” to track the harvesting of fruit.

Outside, the Australian Army’s Drone Racing Team took to the skies showing off their flying skills and demonstrating how drones can capture and analyse valuable information which can transform farming.

TAFE marketing operations manager for south-west Queensland, Sam Metzroth, said there was also sessions aimed at demystifying artificial intelligence for business people.

Representatives from local manufacturing and agricultural businesses took part.

The free face-to-face workshops showcased the career and business opportunities that can be harnessed through cutting-edge technology.
