The number of stolen vehicles located in the South Burnett has actually fallen over the past five years, despite much-publicised incidents this year.
In answer to a Question on Notice from local MP Deb Frecklington, Police Minister Mark Ryan provided figures for the number of stolen vehicles recovered by police in the South Burnett Patrol Group area:
- 2018 – 118
- 2019 – 106
- 2020 – 74
- 2021 – 82
- 2022 – 89
The South Burnett Patrol Group area includes the South Burnett and Cherbourg council areas.
The data includes cars, buses, motorcycles, trucks, vans and farm equipment and where they were located … either found, abandoned or burnt out.
It does not reflect where they were stolen.
“Please note that this data is preliminary and subject to change,” Minister Ryan said.
“The number of vehicles is a unique count of vehicles and therefore numbers may be higher than the number of unlawful use of motor vehicle offences, as offences may contain multiple motor vehicles.”
