A large grass fire at Brooklands forced the closure of Kingaroy-Cooyar Road for several hours on Friday because of smoke affecting visibility.
Fire crews were called to the blaze, on the nearby Brooklands-Pimpimbudgee Road, about noon.
Initially, the blaze was reported to be burning on the side of a hill and covering an area of about 10 acres, however this quickly doubled in size.
At the peak of the incident, there were 11 fire crews – both urban and rural brigades – in action working to control the flames.
A QFES spokesperson said the fire was burning in “heavy fuel” country.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control just before 2:00pm with Kingaroy-Cooyar Road reopened fully to traffic about 2:50pm.
At 3:00pm, several crews were still on site mopping up.
