South Burnett Regional Council has prioritised four sites for its annual hazard reduction burns.
The four sites are Boondooma Reserve, Staines Road Reserve, Blackbutt; Wondai East and Showgrounds; and Wondai West.
Cr Scott Henschen said the first burn would be carried out at Boondooma Reserve from April 26-28.
If conditions are suitable, the other sites will be burned in September.
“Planned burns are an essential practice for us to help reduce fuel loads,” Cr Henschen said.
Local Rural Fire Brigades will conduct the burns in collaboration with Council and the QFES.
Cr Henschen said the “window of opportunity” for hazard reduction burns was typically during the cooler months between April and September.
“We’re pleased to be on schedule this year after the wet weather delayed last year’s season,” he said.
“Council considers impacts to flora, fauna, and our surrounding communities, and use a range of techniques to conduct safe planned burns to maintain and improve biodiversity and ecological values for the natural environment.
“We’re always extremely mindful of the effects that smoke from planned burns may have on neighbours and visitors and appreciate their understanding while we work with the relevant agencies on this safety initiative.”
