Members of the new 2023 South Burnett Youth Council met for the first time at the South Burnett Council Chambers in Kingaroy on Tuesday afternoon.

Fourteen young people from across the region make up the recently inducted Youth Council: Hugh Wyvill, Maggie Livett, Kayleigh Johannesen, Casey Springhall, Sharlette Calvert, Wyatt Johnson, Nick Sutton, Nicole Dunston, Charlise Tennant, Ben Springhall, Remy Favier, Bella Hams, Maria Sykes and Ebony Wessling.

Nominations were sought in January for motivated people aged between 14 and 24.

The group will now meet regularly, take part in leadership forums and self-development activities and also help organise youth and community events.

The inaugural South Burnett Youth Council was formed in 2022.

It conducted many activities but a highlight was organising the PigJam music event as part of last year’s BaconFest in Kingaroy.

SBRC Community Development co-ordinator Margie Hams said the 2023 group’s first major activity will be held on April 22-23 when the members will attend a leadership course facilitated by Wil Massara, founder of the Youth Leadership Academy Australia (YLAA), at the Griffith University Training rooms in Kingaroy.

The young West Australian entrepreneur launched YLAA at age 15. It has been reported this venture now turns over $30,000 a month.
