Ex-Murgon pharmacist Curtis Shea Mickan, 36, has been sentenced to seven years’ jail after admitting to a chain of violent events which culminated in him burning down his family’s Brisbane home in May 2021.
Mickan – who has been in custody since his arrest – will be eligible for parole in September.
He was sentenced by Chief Judge Brian Devereaux SC in the Brisbane District Court on Thursday after pleading guilty to a string of offences, including arson, assault occasioning bodily harm, choking, common assault and wilful damage.
Mickan was originally charged with two counts of attempted murder but these were withdrawn last June.
The court was told Mickan came home drunk after a football match and began attacking his wife.
She called the police and Mickan was taken away but later released without charge.
Mickan later returned to the Wooloowin home, reversed his vehicle out from under the highset timber building, poured fuel over his wife’s car, turned on two LPG bottles and lit a fire.
His wife and mother-in-law were in the house at the time but managed to escape.
The building was destroyed.
