Former Murgon cricketer Courtney Sippel has won a major award at the prestigious Australian Cricket Awards announced at a black tie event in Sydney this week.

The 21-year-old was named the Betty Wilson Young Cricketer of the Year after strong performances with the ball this season for the Brisbane Heat and Queensland Fire.

She also scored some very handy runs for the Governor-General’s XI against Pakistan in January.

Sippel made her debut with the Brisbane Heat in 2018 after being part of their development squad

In February last year, Sippel was named Player of the Match in the Australia A victory over England A.

Sippel’s name was read out among those of Australia’s cricketing elite:
