Nanango Purple proved too strong for Nanango Yellow in the South Burnett Cricket Association’s T20 Grand Final played last Saturday.

The clash between the two Scorpions’ teams was played at their home ground, Alan Downie Sports Fields in Nanango.

Yellow won the toss and batted first.

At the end of their 20 overs, Yellow were 9/119 with Brad Schipanski top-scoring with 23 not out.

Stephen Kirkland (15) and Ben Greenslade (14) also added valuable runs.

Purple’s best bowlers included Abby Burrows who took three wickets off her four overs.

Abby is one of a string of junior female cricketers who are currently being nurtured in the South Burnett.

So far this season she has played representative games for both South Burnett and Wide Bay sides.

Also starring for Purple was Thomas Town, who took 2/8 off his four overs, which included two maidens.

In reply, the Purple batters dominated, overcoming the target in 12 overs.

Lochlan Burrows top-scored with 62 not out.

Nicholas Scherger (2/30 off four overs) and Ben Greenslade (1/32 off three) took the three wickets.

Purple (3/123) defeated Yellow by seven wickets.

  • Kingaroy Services Orange (1/113) def. Kingaroy Services Blue (107 all out) by nine wickets at Taabinga State School.
  • Murgon (6/91) def. Wondai (7/88) by three runs at Murgon Sportsground.
  • Nanango Purple (7/146) def. Tingoora Vikings (5/118) by 28 runs at Alan Downie Sports Fields, Nanango.
  • Nanango Yellow (5/199) def. Wooroolin Warriors (6/183) by 16 runs at Alan Downie Sports Fields, Nanango.

SBCA Stage 2 and Stage 3 junior games will resume on January 28.

Round 1 of the Gympie A Grade Two-Day competition was completed with both South Burnett teams playing in Gympie:

  • Gympie Harlequins (5/270) defeated Wooroolin Warriors (258 all out) by five wickets.
  • Gympie Colts (9/114; 7/109) defeated Murgon Crusaders (84 all out; 173 all out) by three wickets.
