A number of South Burnett junior cricketers have been action for Wide Bay in the recent Queensland Junior Cricket championships.

The championships were held from December 12-16 at Gympie (U12), Brisbane (U13), Southport (U14), Sunshine Coast (U15), Cairns (U16 Bulls Masters Youth Cup).

As well, Charlotte Love took part in the U15 Female State Challenge at Redlands with the Coastal Burners.

Development carnivals for Under 12s and Under 14s will also be held during the school holidays in Brisbane and on the Sunshine Coast.

Kieran Askin hits a four for Warriors … Askin was making a start when he was bowled for 16 runs

Murgon Crusaders defeated Wooroolin Warriors by three wickets in a hard-fought Grand Final of the Gympie A Grade One-Day competition, played at Murgon Sportsground on December 3.

Murgon won the toss and sent Wooroolin in to bat in the local derby.

Wooroolin were all out for 149 in the 35th over, with Matthew Springate top-scoring with 35 runs.

Crusaders’ bowlers shared the wickets but Graham Brown (3/10 off five overs), Tom Currin (2/22) and Nicholas Sanewski (2/22) had the best figures.

In reply, Murgon (7/150) overtook the target in the 39th over

Brenton Polzin (45) and Nicholas Sanewski (34) were the top scorers.

Tyler Henness (2/18 off eight) and Kieran Askin (2/29 off 7.5) were the best of the Warriors’ bowlers.

Two weeks later, Murgon added another trophy to their cabinet, taking out the Gympie A Grade T20 competition final, too (see below).

  • Stage 2 – Nanango (6/89) def. Kingaroy Wamuran Timbers (8/87) by two runs on December 3.

Kingaroy innings: Luke Fisher (9), Deegan Zemek (6), Zac Reardon (4); Kai Marriot (1/11), Tiffany Cook (1/4) and Lucas Shepherd (1/8).
Nanango innings: Caleb Schipanski (21), Beau Laherty (7), Adisyn Martin (9); Zayleb Cull (1/9), Zac Reardon (1/9) and Deegan Zemek (1/12).

  • Stage 3 – Nanango  (4/194) def. Kingaroy (5/139) by 55 runs on December 3.

Nanango innings: Charlie Jensen (67), Isaac Hauritz (34), Josie Black (22); Con Curtis (2/18), Hayden Donohue (1/19) and Joe Carney (1/27).
Kingaroy innings: Joe Carney (40), Jayden Prendergast (29), Ledger Comello (18); Charlie Prendergast (2/19) and Darcy Cullen (1/15).

SBCA Senior T20

The first two rounds on December 3 were washed out. On December 10:

  • Kingaroy Services Blue (3/141) def. Tingoora Vikings (6/121) by 20 runs at Taabinga State School.
  • Nanango Yellow (5/156) def. Kingaroy Services Orange (6/153) by five wickets at Allan Downie Sports Fields, Nanango.
  • Nanango Purple (3/207) def. Murgon (8/90) by 117 runs at Allan Downie Sports Fields, Nanango.
  • Nanango Yellow (0/140) def. Kingaroy Services Blue (3/138) by 10 wickets at Allan Downie Sports Fields, Nanango.
  • Kingaroy Services Orange (4/200) def. Nanango Purple (7/182) by 18 runs at Allan Downie Sports Fields, Nanango.
  • Murgon (3/175) def. Wooroolin Warriors (6/119) by 56 runs at Kingaroy State School.
  • Wooroolin and Tingoora won their games over Wondai by default.

The SBCA Senior T20 competition will recommence on January 7.

Gympie A Grade T20

DECEMBER 9-10:

  • Murgon (8/154) def. Harlequins (9/93) by 61 runs at Jack Ison Oval, Gympie.
  • Murgon (6/143) def. Gympie Valleys (8/132) by 11 runs at Keith Manthey Oval, Gympie.

DECEMBER 16-17:

  • Murgon (9/100) def. Gympie Royals (9/96) by four runs at Keith Manthey Oval, Gympie.
  • Murgon (5/144) def. Gympie Colts (83 all out) at Kosminsky Oval, Gympie.

On December 18, Murgon (2/93) defeated Gympie Colts (88 all out) in the A Grade T20 Grand Final played at Keith Manthey Oval.

Murgon won the toss and sent Colts in to bat. They were all out in the 19th over.

In reply, Murgon made the target in the 14th over, with Brenton Polzin (40 not out) top-scoring.
