The old timber bridge on Home Creek Loop Road near Wilkesdale – which has been closed for safety reasons since 2019 – is to be replaced with a new concrete structure.
South Burnett Regional Council has received $583,680 from the Federal Government’s Bridge Renewal Program to enable the project to go ahead.
This funding will cover up to 80 per cent of the estimated cost of replacing the bridge.
The Home Creek Loop Road bridge was permanently closed in 2019 after a Level 2 bridge inspection.
This inspection found a number of structural defects that affected the bridge’s load-bearing capacity.
A Council spokesperson said a design and construction tender would be released in the next few months to engage a contractor, with works expected to begin in late 2024 or 2025.
