The South Burnett Woodcrafters first “garage sale” on Saturday has been hailed as a big success.
Management committee member Darryl Roberts said about 90 per cent of the items they had put out for sale had been snapped up.
At least 150 people had been through doors of their complex in King Street, Kingaroy, until noon, with still three more hours left.
Most of the items on sale were woodworking equipment although there was some craft and jewellery items, books and shelving.
Darryl said the sale – which took several months to put together – was being held on behalf of two deceased estates.
“It only came about because of the two former members,” Darryl said.
“It was mainly to help families who no longer have a use for woodworking tools.”
About 30 club members also helped out on the day, manning a sausage sizzle as well as looking after the sales.
The garage sale was also an opportunity for visitors to inspect the Woodcrafters’ huge workshop area which was only opened in March this year.
The complex incorporates the former Q Link freight depot site but former railway staff wouldn’t recognise the place now, with new floors, wall and roof.
The members have also been very busy creating “Woodies Goodies”, a stand-alone gift shop filled with items handmade by members.
The gift shop, located beside the workshop, is open from 8:30am to noon on club days, ie. Tuesdays and Saturdays.
People can also drop in and have a chat with the club members, especially if they are interested in joining!
The woodcrafters are also willing to tackle special projects from the public, eg. trophies, cutting boards, presentation pens etc which can be ordered via Woodies Goodies.
