A funeral service will be held in Kingaroy on Thursday for a former Officer-in-Charge at Kingaroy Police Station, Senior Sergeant John Bastable.
John, 80, was well-known in the South Burnett area and served as OIC from 1989-1997.
He died peacefully on November 17 after a long illness.
John was also a former member of Kingaroy Rotary, serving on the executive, and was made a Paul Harris Fellow in 2017.
He was born in the United Kingdom in 1942 and began his policing career with the London Met.
In 1963, he married Jeanne Wilkins, from Buckinghamshire, and the couple moved to Australia soon afterwards.
John joined the Queensland Police Force in 1966 and was posted at Woolloongabba station.
Jeanne tragically died in May 2009.
John then married Edna Poneles in 2012 and the couple continued to live in the Kingaroy district until shifting to Toowoomba when John became ill.
His funeral will be held at Virgo’s Funeral Home Chapel, 24 Pioneer Avenue, Kingaroy, from 11:00am on Thursday (November 24) to be followed by interment at Memerambi Cemetery.
Friends have then been invited to gather at Kingaroy RSL Club for drinks.
John is survived by wife Edna, two children Catherine and Colin, four step-children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
