Murgon-born actor and director Leah Purcell has dominated award nominations for this year’s AACTA (Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts) Awards.
Her stage adaptation of Henry Lawson’s “The Drover’s Wife” has already won a string of awards for Leah, but now it is her film version which is in the spotlight.
Leah wrote, directed, produced and starred in “The Drover’s Wife The Legend of Molly Johnson” which was released in Australian cinemas this year.
Her film has been nominated for Best Film, Best Direction (Leah Purcell), Best Actress (Leah Purcell), Best Actor (Rob Collins), Best Supporting Actress (Jessica De Gouw), Best Supporting Actor (Malachi Dower-Roberts) and Best Screenplay.
Another film that Purcell co-directed, “Here Out West”, has also been nominated as Best Film.
