Seven local not-for-profit groups will share $4.68 million in sporting grants under flood recovery assistance announced on Thursday.

The biggest winner is the Tansey Polocrosse Club which will receive $2.77 million under the joint Federal / State disaster recovery funding scheme.

The club will use the money to assist with the recovery of the playing surface and ancillary facilities after the extraordinary flooding in the region in 2021-22.

The grants have been made under the Community and Recreational Assets Recovery and Resilience Program.

Other grants include:

  • South Burnett Regional Council – $631,141 – assist with recovery of surface and supporting infrastructure on the South Burnett Rail Trail
  • Wondai-Proston Wolves Rugby League Club Inc – $479,777 – assist with recovery of playing surface and equipment, supporting infrastructure and works to support resilience
  • Triple R Motorsports Limited – $82,644 – assist with recovery of supporting infrastructure at Ballogie
  • Gympie Regional Council – $49,711 – assist with recovery of playing surface and ancillary facilities at Kilkivan Showgrounds
  • Kilkivan Show And Campdraft Association Inc – $113,115 – assist with recovery of playing surface and ancillary facilities, equipment and supporting infrastructure
  • Tansey Men’s Bowls Club Inc – $556,896 – assist with recovery of playing surface and ancillary facilities

Federal Minister for Emergency Management Senator Murray Watt said Council sites and sporting clubs would be repaired, re-built and strengthened through the funding.
