Member for Gympie and Shadow Agriculture Minister Tony Perrett

Shadow Minister for Agriculture Tony Perrett has renewed a call for an extension to the deadline for applications for Disaster Assistance Grants.

He warned that applications for Disaster Assistance Grants following the devastating floods between November 2021 and April 2022 were closing within weeks.

“I have been contacted by a barrage of primary producers concerned they will be unable to meet the Palaszczuk Government’s deadline,” Mr Perrett said.

“For grant funding to be submitted for payment, works must be completed and fully paid prior to submission.

“Primary producers in these flood-affected areas are doing their best to get back on their feet, however continue to face serious delays in doing so.

“We are all aware of extreme labour shortages and difficulties securing contractors to undertake works. These conditions are only worse in the rural communities impacted by disasters.

“If the Palaszczuk Government listened to Queenslanders they would know that an extension is not only desperately needed, but common sense.

“I wrote to the Deputy Premier over four weeks ago asking him to extend the timeframe for 12 months. To date, I have not received a response.

“The Deputy Premier must intervene and again extend these timeframes, and give disaster impacted Queenslanders the confidence they deserve.”
