The annual Santa Claus Lane and Santa’s Workshop competitions are on again this year in the South Burnett!

Santa Claus Lane is organised by South Burnett Regional Council CEO Mark Pitt and his wife Nicola.

The aim is to encourage residents to work with their neighbours to create a dazzling Christmas display.

This year registrations will close at 4:30pm on November 25.

“Santa Claus Lane is an important part of encouraging community cohesion and showing that the South Burnett embodies the spirit of Christmas,” Mr Pitt said.

“With the region experiencing two years of COVID-19 and the tougher economic times, it’s more important than ever that we find ways to brighten spirits and give a little joy.

“Santa Claus Lane is a low-cost community initiative which embraces the festive season. It’s a time where we can all work towards a common goal while making the Christmas season brighter.”

Registrations can be made via Council’s website or via an entry form which can be collected at any of Council’s Customer Service Centres.

The winning street will be awarded a Santa Claus Lane perpetual sign.

Santa Claus Lane will be judged based on the co-operation of the houses in the same street for participation.

As part of the entry form, entrants are asked to enclose up to one A4 page detailing why the houses in their street should be identified as the winner. Up to three members of the street should be added as contacts to the entry form.

A map showing all entrants in the competition will be published on Council’s website.

Santa’s Workshop is a sister initiative to Santa Claus Lane.

South Burnett businesses have been invited to get creative with their festive window displays as a homage to the windows that used to leave children awestruck in the city years ago.

The competition aims to encourage a sense of place and pride in the region.

To enter, businesses must declare an active ABN and complete the entry form.

One business from each of six areas will be chosen as having the best Christmas window display and be awarded the 2022 Ken Mills Santa’s Workshop trophy which will be announced on December 14.

To enter:

1. Complete the entry form on Council’s website or available through Council’s Customer Service Centres. Submission of an entry form is mandatory to be in the running for the Santa’s Workshop title and trophy and registration closes 4:30pm on November 25.

2. Have the Christmas window display ready for judging between Thursday, December 1, and Sunday, December 11.
