Another 21 deaths were added to Queensland’s official COVID-19 toll on Friday, taking the total number of fatalities since the pandemic began to 2236.

All but seven of these deaths have occurred since the Omicron wave coincided with the re-opening of Queensland’s borders.

The latest deaths occurred in the seven days prior to midnight on Tuesday (October 11).

The Queensland Health statistics show there are currently 103 people being treated for COVID-19 in Queensland hospitals, including just one patient in intensive care.

A total of 7064 new cases were officially reported to Queensland Health during the seven-day period.

Nationally, Australia recorded 36,790 new COVID-19 cases last week and more than 270 deaths.

The latest statistics coincide with the lifting of mandatory self-isolation for COVID-19 positive people.

From 1:00am on Friday, it is no longer mandatory for people who test positive to COVID-19 to self-isolate at home.

However, Queensland Health has “strongly recommended” that people who are sick or who have tested positive continue to take action to reduce the risk of transmission.

Some high-risk settings or other businesses may put in place additional requirements or conditions for staff, visitors and residents to reduce risk of COVID-19 transmission in these settings.
