The very talented members of the Jumping Ant Arts group have taken over the Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery for October for their annual “Antfest” exhibition.

The display, dubbed “Nature’s Basket”, includes paintings, ceramics, textile art and woodcut prints.

The Jumping Ant Arts collective was formed in 2009.

Members meet in the 1913 Council Chambers on the first and third Wednesday of every month.

Founding member – and former Kingaroy Art Gallery curator – Paul van Vegchel officially opened the exhibition.

He praised the Jumping Ant artists on their commitment to art and each other over the past 13 years.

Paul also recalled the early days of the Kingaroy gallery, and the people who had supported its establishment, including former Kingaroy Shire councillor Marie Shaw and former mayor, the late Bob Downes.

He said Bob would be thrilled to bits to see what the Kingaroy Art Gallery had become.

Exhibition co-ordinator Melody Cook said “Nature’s Basket” featured works by 12 artists.

Workshops are being run in conjunction with the exhibition.
