More public information sessions will be held soon about the proposed Iron Leaf wind farm at Ironpot, which will be known as “Tarong West” after the State Government invests $776 million in the project.
RES – the company which would build the wind farm – plans to hold community information sessions at:
- Ironpot – October 18, 10:00am-1:00pm at the Ironpot Farmers Hall, Jarail Road
- Kumbia – October 18, 4:00pm-7:00pm at the Kumbia School of Arts Memorial Hall, 29-31 Bell Street
- Chahpingah – October 19, 9:00am-noon at the Burrandowan Racetrack, Burra Burri Road
Previous community information meetings were held at the same three locations in May.
RES has prepared an updated project layout following these initial meetings, and as a result of technical studies and environmental assessments.
The latest round of meetings are being organised by the RES Project Team and Senior Development Project Manager Toby Coates ahead of the official lodgement of development applications.
On Monday, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and Energy Minister Mick de Brenni travelled to the privately owned Coopers Gap Wind Farm nearby to announce the Ironpot project had been allocated $776 million from the $2 billion Queensland Renewable Energy and Hydrogen Jobs Fund.
This funding would be used by the government-owned Stanwell Corporation to invest in the project in a “strategic partnership” with RES.
The number and location of the proposed turbine towers – which will be taller than those built at Coopers Gap – is yet to be determined.
Final approval for the project is not expected until 2024.
