South Burnett Regional Council has received more than $663,000 in grants from the State Government for three job-creation projects.

Council will receive $364,536 to install a weighbridge at the Nanango Waste Facility to meet its obligations under State waste management regulations.

In a separate grant, it will receive $138,000 towards the cost of developing a Waste Management and Climate Change Adaptation Strategy to help plan a low-waste, circular economy future for the South Burnett, as well as look at different ways to extend the life of existing landfills.

The Council will also receive $161,000 towards the estimated $236,000 cost of re-roofing Blackbutt’s Memorial Hall, which has begun to lose its proper alignment.

All three grants meet 60 per cent of the estimated costs for these projects, with ratepayers contributing $442,000 for the balance.

The Council announced its successful grant applications on Tuesday.

“These planning and infrastructure projects will make a significant difference to the South Burnett community which would not have been possible without State Government support,” Mayor Brett Otto said.

“The funding will (also) create jobs for Queenslanders and increase liveability for our community, while boosting regional economies.”

The grants were made under the 2022-24 Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program.

Under the terms of the grant agreements, all works must start after July 1 and be completed by the end of June 2024.
