After last week’s complete washout, rugby league is back in action this weekend with a special all-day Family Fun Day on Saturday at Murgon Showgrounds.
The Domestic Violence Awareness Round, hosted by the Murgon Mustangs and South Burnett Rugby League, features round-robin mini-mod games for Under 6s, Under 8s, Under 10s and Under 12s, and games from the Wide Bay Female and Toowoomba Junior competitions.
The South Burnett Eagles will be in action in several games:
- 10:00am – South Burnett U14s girls v Bundaberg (Wide Bay) – CANCELLED
- Noon – South Burnett U15s boys v Valleys (TJRL)
- 1:30pm – South Burnett U16s boys v Valleys (TJRL)
- 2:40pm – South Burnett Open women v Central Burnett (Wide Bay)
- 3:50pm – South Burnett U17s boys v Valleys (TJRL)
- 5:00pm – Fraser Coast Open women v Bundaberg (Wide Bay)
There will also be three 20-minute U17s girls’ games:
- 4:00pm – Bundaberg v Fraser Coast
- 4:25pm – South Burnett v Fraser Coast
- 4:50pm – South Burnett v Bundaberg
The huge day of rugby league action will kick off at 8:00am.
There’ll also be children’s activities and a chance to meet former Indigenous All Star Ash Taylor who has played for the Brisbane Broncos, Gold Coast Titans and New Zealand Warriors.
Taylor has been visiting local schools this week alongside Mustangs officials and representatives from the Allison Bayden-Clay Foundation.
The Family Fun Day is an alcohol-free event but a canteen will be running all day selling food and soft drinks.

UPDATE May 21: Due to the overnight rain, there has been some changes to the day’s schedule:
- 11:00am – South Burnett U14s girls v Fraser Coast (Wide Bay)
- 4:00pm – South Burnett U17s girls v Fraser Coast (Wide Bay)
- U14s – Murgon v Kingaroy time has been changed for 8:00am to 9:00am
- U14s – Cherbourg v Nanango has been changed from 9:00am to 10:00am
